Best thing I've ever gotten

This.
I actually felt the pressure of the microkeratome, and maybe just a little stinging/burning (but I think that was even from the numbing drops, not from the procedure).
I could smell the tissue vaporize from the laser, but I felt nothing during that part.

Two valiums in your system and numbing eye drops.

Has to be worse than that. That's like nothing.
Eyes are easily numbed. I'm sure you've had a cavity. What they're doing to your tooth would be much more painful without the numbing shot than LASIK would be without the numbing drops.

Bookmarking this. I've been considering LASIK for a while now. My prescription has been stable for a few years...-6.5 in both eyes. I can't see past 3 inches from my nose without glasses/contacts, and it sucks.
Really thinking about doing it soon. I need to do it before I age out of my parents' insurance.

I actually have my consultation with Dr Singer(well not him, I guess the consultation Dr, forget his name) tomorrow. Dr singer would be doing the surgery if I qualify.

It doesn't completely cover it, true. But it still gives a discount. Better than nothing.

Wut?
Drilling into a tooth where it produces a burning smell is much more painful than pealing back a few layers of the cornea.

Thinking about getting it done eventually. What were your experiences with getting LASIK? Worth it? Did they blind you on accident? How are you reading this if so?
Best decision I ever made. I had it done at Williamson (I think that's the name) in BR in 2008. I have better than 20/20 vision, I may need reading glasses when I'm 40 or so they say. I was considered legally blind before the procedure.
As far as the procedure itself, it's pretty quick and (almost) painless. It's a pretty freaky experience, they cut a flap on your eye and you go blind, when they put it back you can see perfectly.
All in all, I would DEFINITELY recommend it.

Had it done 2 years ago next week with both eyes at -6.5 prescription. Payed Just under 4k total because I went and found the best corneal surgeon in Houston to have it done because I'm not poor and highly value my eyes. I walked out of the surgery at 20/10 and still see as well. One of the best decisions I've made.

I did mine about 12 years ago. It's been great. I was fine with wearing glasses but they interfered with sporting activities so I did it. My eyes were super sharp for years but are probably about 20/25 left and 20/40 right now. I'm fine without glasses although I should probably get some for driving at night.
The important thing is to get a doctor with the integrity to tell you if you are a marginal candidate (thin corneas, dry eyes, etc.). I went to a guy who has done several 49ers. He did Terrell Owens, Patrick Willis, Bill Walsh, and others. His price was reasonable and he wasn't running a factory—it was just him.
However, my experience was not like most others. When the anesthetic wore off I was in extreme pain for the first five hours. By the end of the day it was still gritty and sore but it was tolerable to look around. I was fine after that. YMMV.

Freaky is a good description. I never felt any pain, but I felt extremely uncomfortable. If I could have gotten up and run out, I would, but a disk was attached to my eye and laser was busy burning into me. I think it had to do with the fact that I've never had pressure like that applied to my eyeball. Completely new sensory experience and the Valium hadn't kicked in yet. That's the only way I can describe it. All that said, I'd go through it again in a heartbeat.
