Sometimes I use “ as “explanation” marks. Sometimes I use () as (explanation) marks. Sometimes I use _ as explanation marks.

The text age has really put punctuation in the spotlight. Texts are intended to be written conversationally which really necessitates a mark between exclamation and period. You're not the only one who struggles with this.
