This species demonstrated that higher cognitive thinking skills existed way prior to what was previously thought. This species doesn't fit the previously known progression.
Fine, but it's also not evolutionary biology problem, but an anthropology problem.

How can you say that? You think our predecessors de-evolved?

The discovery of a human-related species just underscores how little we know about the lifeforms the preceded ours’ millions of years ago.
BUT
Scientist know exactly what is going on in other places lights years away in our universe. Also, they know exactly what the weather was like 10,000 years ago!

I'm just saying this is more in the anthropology field than evolutionary biology.

Exactly. I think it's pretty obvious that these scientists are just making shite up as they go now but our brilliant government keeps giving them more of our money so they can science. It's bullshite.

I like how a lot of people think that everything that ever happened on Earth is recorded in rocks and you can just go out and figure out everything that happened without any incomplete parts. Complete and fluid story of the history of the Planet.
The fossil record is so so biased. It favors sea creatures that have hard shells. That's what we can find unless we get really really special preservation events: either locations or actual catastrophic events.
That's why they find a lot of these pre-humans in caves. They are these special locations.
