Today is my kid's first day of kindergarten at a new school. This is some super unsafe and shite weather to bring him for the first time in. If EBR is gonna cancel, they need to do it soon

Put floaties on his arms and drop him off.

I teach. Cannot back out of my driveway because it's like a river. Water coming in the house if it keeps up much longer. Did someone really post that schools should not close for this kind of rain? If teachers can't get there, who will watch your precious baby in that big empty building. Get real.

ETA: yes I'm OT poor on this salary but only work 9 months a year. There is no hazard pay, however.

In St. Tammany there a tons of rivers and creeks. I grew up here and can honestly say that we would cancel school back in the day for something like this. If your house is flooded, you will probably be going to school anyway as they are used for shelters.

So schools should be closed if it rains ????

Yes, if it sprinkles we should close the schools. That's what he's saying. He just happened to say it on a day where there is a flash flood warning.

The schools as a kid were the safest buildings to be in. Bad weather was never a reason to close. If you couldn't get there, you missed a day and life went on.

Building D at the old Woodlawn would have water up to your knees right now.

Ms Charbonnier and Mr Mitchell would be out in the parking lot smoking by this point. They were hall E, which was the worst if I remember correctly.
