Pictures posted to eliminate the comments about the U.S. size

Because it will be built and run by the federal government, and our federal government isn’t known for doing things in the most efficient or most cost effective way.

Are you willing to pay what it costs to the government? These countries range from taxing the shite out of the citizens to straight up just taking their money

Because riding a train is gay compared to taking your own vehicle or flying.

So if Amtrak was privatized and given subsidies and timelines with penalties people would still complain.

People get set on fire in our current public transportation system

Because I don’t want “underprivileged youth” getting subsidized fares to invade the peaceful countryside.

Astronomical costs and we Americans are a bit more independent than other nations.
We like to get in our car at the time we want, drive and stop where we want. Not be beholden to train schedules.

Because they are money pits.
On second thought, it is kind of amazing that we don't have them, because the federal government is the biggest money pit on the planet.

There will be lots of reasons posted like the size of the country, cost and demographics but really it’s about culture. Americans just don’t want it.

The U.S. spends more on education, police, and healthcare per person than any high taxed nation.

I would like to think that the airline industry has been fighting against this sort of thing. There might be fear of not being able to legitimately compete against trains going more than 100 miles per hour.

Because public transportation is for trash
Even flying is becoming unbearable. It needs to be way more expensive.

You mean so if Musk builds A part leftists can set the trains on fire?

A lot of private companies don’t do things in an efficient or cost effective way, either.

Maybe for a journey of only 500 miles or so
Not practical for more than that as flying is so much faster

Goes back to a century or so ago when the pro auto folks (like Ford, Firestone, Standard Oil, etc) agreed to push cars over trains in the USA

Imagine THIS on rails and on a national level:

I think high speed rail would work great in the DFW/Houston/San Antonio triangle.
