Yep, saw the Allman Bros. and Electric Light Orchestra in our area before either became famous.

Saw System of a Down gigging around town quite a bit before anybody knew who the hell they were. Wasn't a fan, but they played a lot on the same bill as other bands I was into.

Ahhhh yes.

Well before my time, but a certain Mr. Stricklen used to tell some very entertaining stories about that show and the goings-on surrounding it.

311 the first time they played at the Varsity around 1992/3, right before Grassroots came out.

We used to laugh at how bad "Creed" was at Bullwinkle's in Tallahassee...think they called themselves Naked something or other; they were "Turrible" as Chales would say.

Sister Hazel played Floyd's in Tallahassee and Gainesville quite a bit before they hit big also.

My younger days were pretty blurry but am pretty sure that I saw Guns n Roses at either Cowboys in Dothan or Spinnaker in PCB right before Sweet Child hit big.

The Avett Brothers played the Kentuck Arts Festival in Northport in 2006. They've since gotten really big

I saw John Mayer at Memphis In May like right before No Such Thing became a hit. I had no idea who he was and I don't remember much of the concert.

First saw him about 3 years ago. He was hardly known at that time, now he's everywhere, performing at the Grammy Awards and even winning one. He also did the NBA All Star half time show. He's slowly blowing up.

Did the band The Urge open for them on this show? I won tickets and went to a 311 show at the Varsity. Not my band but was an entertaining show with crowd surfing and stage diving.

Saw Bob Seeger in the early 70's.

I'm alright with his music, but the man puts on a great show.

Same with Springsteen. I don't care for his music, but I saw him at the BR Auditorium and he played for 3.5 hours and didn't stop until they turned the lights on. Ha.

My pops and his buddies used to give Jimmy a lot of shite where he played in Hattiesburg. Threw empty beer cans and bottles at him Roadhouse style, yelled various slurs at him, but Jimmy never skipped a beat. Earned mucho respect from the coast trash at Southern for it. SMTTT!

Before many people heard of them, I saw Maroon 5 open for Cowboy Mouth at The Varsity.

I remember thinking at the time that I've seen much worse opening acts before. A couple of years later, they were more popular than Cowboy Mouth ever was.

Bonnie Raitt at the Brass Rail, or Hawks Tooth, (can't remember exactly) in 1976.
