I once worked with a girl named Lacretia. She said she named her son "Thay Land". When we inquired more, she said "you know, like on the the back of the remoke made in Thailand".

So she named her son Thailand and can't even pronounce it.

I went to HS with a girl named Tequila. She was really nice so I didn't pick on her, but damn I wanted to.

Grandmother was a nurse from the 30s until the late 70s, worked for several doctors in our small hometown. She told me one day she was delivering a child and they asked the mother what she was going to name the baby girl. Mama looked up at a chart on the wall and asked them how to pronounce a certain word. My grandmother said the word was "syphilis" (venereal disease poster on the deliver room wall). Lady said, "that's a pretty name" and named her daughter Syphilis. Now, not sure she was named after a product, but a by-product nonetheless.

Never met these people, but I've heard:

1. Doc in the 60's, when my mom was a nursing student, named someone Lemmon (after the drug company).

2. Not really a product, but I've heard of someone named "Nosmoking". Pronounced "NOS-muh-king".

Siran Stacy that played RB at Alabama was named after saran wrap, but his momma spelled it wrong. She said so in an interview.
This seems to happen a lot, especially with regular names. I keep getting mail for a guy name Darick (my last name).

Some people try to defend it by saying "it's an alternate spelling" as if the person meant to do it, but I'd bet that somewhere deep inside, they are ashamed of how much of a dumbass the person is.

Someone who used to work in hospital administration told me of having to deal with a nurse who suggested a name for a woman who just gave birth - "Meconium".
