i was a pall bearer at my Aunt`s funeral i`m left handed but ended up on the wrong side and had to use my right arm, plus a short kid was on my side so he contributed little to a very heavy casket and the grave was up a pretty steep grade and quite a distance. All i remember is thinking "we are gonna haft set this down"

3 times. Caskets + dead people = HEAVY every time.

A couple of times. Once for a great aunt. My brother and I were the youngest by about 40 years and carried practically all the weight. The funeral director will tell you what to do. Just be respectful and do your best.

Yes, for my step familys grandfather. He was a WW2 veteran. It was chilling seeing the flag on the coffin. It was an incredible honor.

Yes. At my father's funeral.
My mom didn't want me to. She wanted us all to be together as they carried him out.
But I figured it was the least I could do at the time considering all he did for me.

My father had one also. Vietnam Veteran. I will never forget them playing Taps at the gravesite.

A eulogy is something you have to do...something you are driven to do. Some of the hardest words I've ever spoken in my life. That saying goodbye.
It's never really goodbye. Every time I go there my heart gets caught in my throat and my eyes well up and the sobs come forth...I just can't help it.
I hate funerals.

Same, I don't even really remember any details. I think I was still in shock since it happened out of nowhere, he was so young and he was my father! What a shitty time that was!

Couple of times for some uncles of mine.

Twice. Once for my grandmother. She was 95.
Other time was for a friend of mind whose 12 year old son committed suicide. 12 year old was much harder.

Yep, several times, including for my Dad.

For my dad. He had an awkward spot in the mausoleum. We scratched the shite out of his coffin. Think he would have wanted it that way

I was for my grandmother's back in August. They had honorary pallbearers at the church service, which were their sunday school members, but the actual pallbearers at the graveside service were me, my two brother in laws, my cousins husband, and another relative. Basically all of her grandchildren or their husbands. We were the ones that took the casket from the hearse and walked it to the grave.

Really? I didn't think it was all that heavy. It was much lighter than what I was expecting. Maybe it has something to do with the casket. But there were 6 of us carrying it, and 5 of us are in shape guys in their 30s.

Seems a bit extreme to have kids carrying a coffin. Very Protestant.

shite I don't know that I could. If I knew them well enough to be a pallbearer, I'd be bawling my eyes out

It was my 78 year old grandmother. The men were all in their late 70s or early 80s. People they had been going to church with for 50+ years. They couldn't actually carry the coffin but they were just listed in the program as pallbearer.
