I think it's because the quicker people cut the cord, the quicker they'll offer better, cheaper options.

What's funny is the bundle is actually by far the cheapest option available for all of the content. If the big bundle goes away, the cost for content will go way up. Take Sling TV. You pay $20/month for what costs about $10-15/month in the big bundle. CBS costs $1 or so on the bundle, but CBS All Access is $6/month.

We all benefit from the bundle in that you subsidize channels I watch but you don't and I subsidize channels you watch but I don't. The smaller the bundle, the less subsidization and the higher cost per channel. That is just a fact.

Then you have not had Cox in quite some time
I have it now... I guess there is a new box you can get with the updated interface?

That is one thing that makes me hesitant to cut the cord. AppleTV, et al, need to make it easier to jump around to different apps/shows

Yeah, I moved recently and they put me on Cox Contour. It didn't cost anything extra. Super nice.

Since ESPN costs nearly five times more than any other cable station, the threat of cord cutting looms large for ESPN. The network -- and its parents company Disney -- has more to lose from cord cutting than anyone

Pretty funny considering ESPN is the sole reason many people haven't cut the cord.

Do you know how much it costs after the promotional period and how much for each additional box? Looked online but they don't have any of that info.

Lol what? Cox's guide/interface hasn't changed in over a decade. It is horrible.

The Cox guide/interface has changed in the last 2-3 years. Maybe you need a new box.

I don't. So far every time my two year agreement is about to end I call and get another. I know an extra box is $7.99 without DVR

ESPN pushing a liberal agenda to a target audience that usually doesn't agree with that kind of stuff probably isn't helping.

ETA: Thanks for the downvotes Caitlyn

Yup. Why anyone pays for cable/satellite in a major city is beyond me.

You do realize that almost all OTA broadcasts now are in HD.

I would not be mad if ESPN didn't have quite the influence that they currently do. If not for ESPN kicking and screaming about the Odell Beckham incident it probably gets swept under the rug just like the twenty other that I watched happen this season.

Use the savings from a few months to buy a Tivo system and you've got a DVR and program guide that beats the pants off cable or satellite and also streams all of the major services like Netflix and Amazon.

except ESPN, ESPN2, etc and you have to pay for cable internet, which will add another $60 or so to get quality speed and the GB/month to handle all that streaming

I am currently doing sling and it works for me. The only other thing I could have gotten was Comcast because my landlord wouldn't let me have dish. I wasn't doing Comcast. I am kind on the fence with it. I needed ESPN for college football and sling has it plus a few other channels I watch so it works.

Fox has no room to talk about ESPN being a dying business model. First off that website sucks. Secondly they offer nothing for roku or the like. At least ESPN adjusting. Fox has been allergic too it.

I do think it is funny that we all cord cut, get hulu, hbogo, showtime go, Netflix, fxxnow, cbsnow, ect.

then in 15 years we will be like "man it would be nice if someone just wrapped all these channels into one.

ESPN's idea for the future was simple: buy as many sports rights as you possibly can to help protect yourself from cable competitors like Fox Sports, CBS and NBC. Those rights -- there are only so many games -- would create a huge moat around the ESPN castle to protect the company from competitors. The problem was, that moat has ended up flooding the company instead.

Did he mention that ESPN's plan worked and none of it's competitors have come close to gaining any traction and might as well be public access in comparison?

I agree. I definitely don't intend to turn to FS1, I just thought it was funny that they included that price comparison.

I cut the cable and the biggest issue is local cable programming like mlb/nba. Most big sporting events I can get over the air, or will be watching somewhere else. I have barely watched any Pelicans games this year and that's my biggest problem with it
