The reporter says that Reserve was once a "thriving black community" when the sugar mill was there.
The guy she interviews gripes that it's still a "slave" community.
Something doesn't add up there.

The problem is that they may have a legitimate argument for raising health concerns about living that close to those plants, but making it about race is fricking absurd

I would argue upward mobility or lack thereof is the one of the larger factors in the high rate. I'd also think St John's terrible water system contributes to the high cancer rate. I worked in Reserve for over 14 years, the office seemed like it was always under a boil notice.

If only those mean chemical plants didn’t force black people to live next to them and drink their cancer chemicals.

If you guys really want to increase your risk of cancer, go read those Facebook comments on the video.

You know, just 20 to 30 years ago, that area designated at the highest risk was mostly white, and was still cancer alley. People are so completely retarded it should be embarrassing to them, but that’s just how retarded they are. They don’t know they should be embarrassed at their foolishness

I lived in a neighborhood across the highway from a chemical plant. In the 60's you could see orange smoke among other colors coming from there. EPA rules have changed dramatically and now all you see is steam. Most of my neighborhood's fathers worked for those plants. It was commonplace. Not racism, just convenience. Lots of future generations are still living there and the property value is high. All of those old St. James areas have been predominantly black for years. Why doesn't this study include areas that are mostly white?

I wouldn't call this a 'study'
This is just another example of the internet being wasted on the worst people

Or another way to look at it is if you don’t feel safe there...move.
I’m pretty sure most of the people in the area are elderly and can’t afford to move.

Ironic, the old man is 77...

Still have a better life expectancy than if they lived in Chicago.
You mean the city with a lower murder rate than Baton Rouge?
