Seems a bit excessive to punish the whole team

quote:

Senior defensive lineman Emmanuel Duron of Edinburg High School is now facing assault charge.

According to jail records, Duron was charged with class A assault Friday morning.

Duron was given a cash surety bond of $10,000.

On Friday morning, the Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District (CISD) decided to remove the entire Edinburg High School football team from playoffs after Duron tackled the referee.

I was thinking they should have been forced to forfeit the game. I have no problem with the punishment.

Yes

Suspend the head coach but let the kids play

ETA: I did not realize we have so many people here that believe in punishment for everyone based on one person's stupidity.

It's sending a message that what happened was completely unacceptable.

I bet that coach will make sure no other player will do that under his watch for the rest of his career.

Sounds like he deserved to be ejected in the first place. What a piece of shite.

quote:

Duron was ejected from the game following roughing the passer, and unsportsmanlike conduct penalty.

Following the officials call, Duron rushed the field and body-slammed the official who made the call.

Pretty appropriate and supposedly the kid had done the same thing in soccer and was banned from that too.

That kid should probably transfer for the next semester unless he wants to get jumped by his teammates every day for the rest of the year

Unless there were other major issues during the game with other members of the team I'm not sure why the entire team would be banned. Duron absolutely deserved to be charged for hitting the ref and expelled

On one hand, it reinforces the very valid theme that a weak link or poor character member of a team jeopardizes the rest of the team.

On the other hand, I like that concept in action a lot more in forfeiture of a regular season game or punishment of a team in practice or the like, because it's a valid lesson to be taken forward by amateur athletes.

Here, I'm sure this "lesson" will be the last organized team involvement for a lot of these players, so in that sense it's kind of harsh.

Good. That piece of shite deserves to be hated by his entire team.

you only get to play and enjoy High School football for a small period of your life.

I do not like punishing the rest of the team for his actions, banning them from playoffs is too harsh. Especially since you can see his own teammates on video trying to stop it before it happened
