Not gonna lie, based on the thread title, I was expecting it to be bigger... But I'm ignorant about shark sizes, apparently. The fake shark in Jaws was bigger than that, I think.

Its been a long time since i last swam with them.
When I started diving with them, I was told that the best place to get a chance to view them was in Africa. But, the clearest water to view them was in Australia. Im not sure about Cali, but if you live there, Id start there. My first 5 white shark dives, we didn't see a one. Thats a long way to go (Australia) too not see one.
I'm not sure of the odds in Australia, it could have been just bad luck, but like I said, Africa is almost guaranteed.

My friend Stan Waterman was a director and photographer/cinematographer for Blue Water White Death. I have the video camera and housing he used in that movie. He was with me when I took those pics and was the only reason I was able to go on those trips. Its a small world.

No shite. The air-powered cages they had were pretty clever, but they never could get them to work properly.
Also, the sharks looked a lot more aggressive in that movie than I've ever seen them on shark week or anywhere else. Peter Gimbel seemed like an interesting character. What a baller, buying dead whales from a whaling fleet just to get footage. That cannot have been cheap.

Yeah, pretty cool back in the days before PETA and PC (before my time). Stan is an amazing person. He is like 92 now. The last time I saw him face to face was 1996 and it was his birthday. We drank till like 4 in the morning. He was up at 6 am for the next white shark dive. He was full of life and looked fresh. I was a little slow, and he was in his 70's and I, in my 20's.
Edit: about not cheap- his family used to own Montecristo cigar company in cuba, before castro. They are loaded.
