PDHs are about $50-100 a PDH by the time you factor in travel, food, and lodging

Yeah, ASME. I just do it for the networking opportunities and the resume bullet point.

It’s basically an excuse for most of them to get away from their wives/kids for a bit for drinks and food.

I stopped AICHE years ago. I still go to seminars for the PDH credits to keep up my PE license.

I don't. I used to be active with the rural water association, but that was really all I did. I prefer to get involved in trail clubs, habitat for humanity, backpacking clubs, etc.

I did try to attend Urban Land Institute conferences once a year. Usually one with a resort and recreational theme to it. I do more facility management work now and less engineering (even though I am working on a design to replumb a small well house with chlorination design this morning).

I personally don't, but we have lunch and learns put on by vendors in the plant so I don't need to, but

1) if you are a young engineer, you would be stupid not to socialize with others to network

2) if you live in a larger city... again stupid not to, just for networking.

If I lived in Houston instead of the Chuck, well it would be a no brainier.
