It seems to us that they are unhappy and have serious FOMO, but don't do much about it. The fact that nearly 100% of their travel is either to visit US or to visit their friends and family in Florida, one would assume they are happy in those places.
My mom was also very unhappy. My stepdad was probably depressed as he hardly moved from in front of Fox News on the TV. He would never have chosen and barely agreed to get in the car to move. But he is actually much happier now and participates in activities at their assisted living with my mom's encouragement. My mom is thrilled with her new situation as she can actually handle their day to day life now.
If possible, maybe you can talk with them about what they really want from their retirement years and what would make them happiest. My mom just couldn't see that she could do anything else but live where she always had and was stuck. Maybe they just can't see another way?
