She was on with Michael Strahan this morning on ABC.
She said she didn’t pay attention like she should have walking on the trail because she was talking to some people. When it was time to turn back she couldn’t remember and that’s what caused her to get lost.

Even a casual hiker should consider getting something like a Garmin InReach. You can buy service by the month so you can pick and choose when it’s active. It lets you send text messages, SOS alerts, etc. via GPS. No one plans on getting lost but if I was solo hiking in a remote area, I would seriously consider getting one.

Got lost in the Rocky Mountains elk hunting when I was 19. It is very easy to get confused (and this was in the 80's so no satellite cell phone).
She did well, kept her head and spelled out the SOS and stayed in one place. Believe me it really takes a lot of will power not to panic and think you know the way back...you keep trying to convince yourself.
