look at the school calendar and note how many days off they have during the school year. Not just the holidays, but the "in service" days too. These frickers don't go to school for a full month at any point.

I swear my child is off more than he goes with the calendar here.

I think 15 absences is a lot. But absence policies are ridiculous. I had to "attend" a truancy meeting because my son was out of kindergarten for a week to go to Mexico for what was going to be a destination wedding/big family trip. I told them in advance as an excuse but it didnt count. It was all unexcused because vacations aren't allowed. Next time I could call in though everyday instead bc the kids get 10 days excused the parents can just call in.

I really really hope my kid wants to homeschool by the time he is high school age. I just want to travel with him and let him learn by experience and culture, no crammed in a classroom doing meaningless studies and testing.

you still have 180 instructional days. I don’t understand your point

I think the point is, there’s more than enough time off during the school year without giving the students an extra
15 days. These kids are supposed to be learning how to join and perform in the workforce and be productive members of society. This isn’t just about reading and writing (things I’m confident about which they are deficient). It’s also about learning how to go somewhere, dress and act appropriately, and participate and (hopefully) contribute. But those basic principles aren’t even being instilled. Instead, we’re conditioning generations to participate and contribute on their terms. When it’s convenient or they “feel like it”. It’s a disservice to the students and an affront to the community.

But the EBR community is a lost cause, so who cares. Let it rot. St. George and the surroundings metros will move forward while BR slides further into dysfunction. Get out while your homes still have some value.
