The Cadence of the English spoken (fast), along with the actual accent, is so hard to pick up when you aren't used to it. Amazingly hard.
Louisiana itself has so many different accents, a study would probably show that we have the most diverse in the country.
Hell, in just SOLA, we have so many that it's hard to have a clear idea of what part of SOLa someone might be from. It has always been something that intrigued me

Dialects are not singularl constrained by region.
The economic class you are a part of have a major impact.
It's why people with received pronunciation ( posh, the queens English) all sound alike. An Oxbridge accent opens doors like nothing else.
