East St. Louis, biggest shithole in America?

Always heard about how bad E. St. Louis is, drove through for the first time this weekend. As soon as you cross the bridge the roads become complete shite and magically once you get back out into the countryside roads are nice again.
Trash and graffiti everywhere. Is it cursed from turning Indian mounds into a landfill? Cursed from being 98% black? Doing a little research after talking to a prospective client from StL today who happens to be black. Was interesting to get his point of view. He said no one knows what they do w/ their money but they sure don't put it back into the city.
Federal Corruption Indictments
There's lots of articles about EStL politicians getting arrested. Seems like grift is the major industry there.
Highest murder rate in America for years and a steadily shrinking population sure makes it seem like a lost cause. I bet they vote like motherfrickers there though.

My friend from college and I are both into urban planning (failed and great). He is from St Louis and talked about ESL often. I told him I could show him bigger ghettos in Nola. I drove him all over...nola east, projects, and central city. He said ESL was way, way worse.
I want to pay him a visit one day to see this.

Never been to NOLA, not all interested in visiting either if it's anything like Baton Rouge.

Try visiting the Arch on your way to Louisville. Then realizing your are on empty as you cross the Mississippi River.
So you get off into that shite hole of a hood.
White guy with bright green shirt and a fishing hat on wearing flip flops. Pull up to gas station. Guy in a wheel chair at the only available pump. We know where this is going. He tries everything to get money out of you. Lady next to us drives off shouting at the disabled man, "You aint got to lie, it's not right begging to everybody".
Leaving the gas station your brakes begin to smoke and lock up.
Fun times

I forgot about Skid Row, so much of the major CA cities look like that now. Portland and Seattle as well.
It's terribly sad and infuriating how some areas treat their people and let their cities disintegrate. That's where our money should go not spending millions to put illegals in hotels for months.
