Duke TIP Scholar Program

My 12 y/o seventh grader was invited to be in that Duke TIP program. Something about taking the ACT and all.
Is it worth it? Or just a money grab?

As a bonus, you get bragging rights on the Burbank soccer field sidelines over the other parents who’s kid was to stoopid for Duke to follow.

I did it when I was in 7th grade. Basically you just get to take the ACT and gives you something to put on high school admission/scholarship applications.

Lets them get some good practice on tests. Of course they then try to get you to buy additional services/programs, but you are not obligated to do so. We just went with the basic stuff, not the extras.

Been there done that. Doesn’t cost that much. Resume filler for your kid to potentially use for college entrances. If they don’t use it then you’re really not out much

If your kid does reasonably well, he or she will be invited to a medal ceremony at a local university. If they do very well, they'll get invited to a nationsl ceremony. The rest of the kids get a bumper sticker.

As dinnertime who designed a TIP course from the ground up, I had 2 high achieving students publish their work in academic journals from the course. As high school students.

It's a bullshite money grab BUT it might do your kid some good to get the experience of taking the ACT

As far as I know, $75. But I have a feeling there are cost adders just waiting around the corner. I don’t have all the paperwork before me. I’m getting fed this info from my ex who wants me to shell out for it for our child.
