I don't know the conditions of such a release, but if he is able, he should probably move to Mississippi.

What does the governor have to do with this?

They’re both from Abita.

Wow he only got 12 years from Judge Hughes. That’s surprising, he has a reputation for being pretty hard.

That’s what I meant. Isn’t the perp from Amite as well? Maybe not but I thought they were both from the same place.

I was sleeping in an apartment literally 200 feet from where this happened. It was sad especially since they were his friends.

Pisses me off that due to paying enough money in campain contributions he was given such a light sentence. Not to mention during his time at CLU in Amite. He only slept at the jail, he had a vehicle parked there that was only taken away after he arrived drunk one night.

JBE early-released petty crime people like the dudes serving 2 yrs for possession.
Like the guy that robbed one guy and attempted to rob another the day after he was released?

The criminal reform bill that enabled that early release—he would’ve been released early under the old system too, probably in a few more months—was supported by the sheriffs and DAs. This wasn’t some liberal brainchild pushed through by JBE. Understand this—NOTHING happens in regards to criminal law changes that isn’t first approved by the DAs and sheriffs. This was bipartisan legislation and the changes really weren’t drastic.
And if you ever wonder why Louisiana staunchly refuses to decriminalize pot, your answer is the sheriffs and DAs don’t want to give up that money and power.

My first cousin was walking with the group that he hit, but thankfully another friend of hers picked her up approximate two minutes before he ran them over.
It was my cousins birthday and they were all out celebrating. She told me that Derek came and spoke to them and wished her a happy birthday earlier in the night at Kirin where he worked.

I was too--those colorful ones right across the street from the accident. Had no idea what happened till I woke up in the morning and there were news crews everywhere.

Punk applied for early release after 2 years.
he definitely didn't deserve it but if I was in jail you can bet your arse I'd have my attorney filing every document known to man if it meant I could possibly get out early

I'm friends with some of his friends, interesting defenses they have for him now. "we've all done it" and "could have happened to anyone"
Seems like a nice guy in the couple times I have met him since hes been out. No denying the elephant in the room though.
Bring on the downvotes im sure
