Drugs burst in stomach of man who died on flight after biting passenger

A Brazilian man who died on an Aer Lingus flight from Portugal to Ireland after biting another man had a package of drugs in his stomach, which burst, The Irish Times has reported.

John Kennedy Santos Gurjao had some 800g of suspected cocaine in 80 pellets concealed inside his stomach, a postmortem by Assistant State Pathologist Dr. Margot Bolster at Cork University Hospital has found. At least one of those pellets is thought to have ruptured, RTÉ News reports.

He was restrained with handcuffs, The Irish Times says, and at one point bit another passenger.

The plane was diverted to Cork. Several on board performed CPR until it landed, when medics attended to the man but he was pronounced dead at the scene. Dr Bolster confirmed the man ingested some 80 wrapped pellets of powder.
