Well I don't speak gump, so I'll have to take your word for it. But if that is what he meant, then the way it was structured (if we pretend the comma was there) implied that it was his dad dropping off an 8yr old. So, sounds like OP has a family issue.

<--- Attended cheer camp. Lettered in cheer leading in high school. I was the mascot. The mascot portion of cheer camp is basically sitting around watching old cartoons and then going out and interrupting the cheer leaders during practice.
