Did you have lasik? I’ve found the cars with halogen lights looked brighter after I had lasik. I’m under 40 and already don’t like driving at night because of it.

Doesn't have anything to do with it. Some lights are just too damn bright. Then, you have mouth breathing "baws" with jacked up trucks and factory set headlights. It is a problem.
Its a problem for anyone at any age. There are requirements that lights be aimed correctly and do not exceed an acceptable level of brightness. This is why factory settings will turn off factory fog lights when the high beams are on on most vehicles. People but aftermarket lights that are far brighter than factory lights and reconfigure the factory settings so that the fog lights and the high beams and the low beams are all on at the same time....and when they install the after market lights they don't bother to aim them correctly. In Georgia it is illegal to exceed a set limit of brightness whether its high or low beams but they only make an issue of it when a cop is blinded and seldom do it even then.
I have a full length mirror in the back window of my commuter. It works like a champ. Those frickers hit the dimmer when their bright assed lights are blinding them. They also do not tailgate. I may put a linear actuator on it so I only use it when necessary. I imagine the mirror is also illegal but cops being cops I have never had one make an issue of it. It won't work, of course, when they are facing you, but when they run up behind you in that idiotic squatted truck with $500 worth of Amazon lights on they fall off, turn some of that shite off or pass you......any of the 3 is better than being blinded by some moron who wants everyone to notice them and damn the danger involved.

I think the color is part of the problem too.
Bright white (and some of the blue tinted ones as well) is more irritating to my 60+ year old whites than the yellowish color of older lights....

Close together, high beams, more spaced out, low beams.
This is becoming less true with newer cars. They often have an array of LEDs spread throughout the housing rather than two primary bulbs.

This. It’s not the brightness, it’s the misaligned lights.
It's both.

Count your blessings. There’s a lot of gangs that have new members ride around with their brights in and then murder anyone that flashes them
I cannot believe that bullshite urban legend is still going around.

Most newer cars with led headlights have auto-highs so even if you have them on, if there are other cars around the lights stay on low. No one thinks about that though. Even people with newer vehicles that have them as well still flash their brights at perceived offenders.
I get that, and it’s all well and good. I’m saying headlights have official gotten too bright. Hell they were too bright 5 years ago, now you literally can’t see when you pass a car made after 2019 head on after dark.
