I would put the destination address into Waze and follow that.

Port Barre on 190 and Lecompte on 71 when trying to shortcut I-49 to US 190 faster are going to have a cop 95% of the time doing speed checks.

I always find the traffic worse coming back from laffy on I10.

You can always take 190 too.

If it says 35 go 34.

Speed will drop from 65 to 35 with vey little warning.

Stop at Kartchners in Krotz Springs and get some jalapeño cream cheese boudin balls.

Go to Jackson then head south. You'll save time bypassing the BR shite show.

Look at going from Alexandria to Natchez (2 lane road most of the way, but not terrible). Then from Natchez to just north of LA/MS line (I don’t know about this road) to I-55 to Hammond then I-12 to Covington. I’m not sure where you are leaving from in Dallas, but just Dallas to Natchez to Covington shows 8 hours 6 minutes. But you won’t have serious traffic issues. It’s 21 minutes longer, but you avoid Baton Rouge.

I-20 to Vicksburg Hwy 27 to I-55 ( 2 lane rd through the country) Decent drive if not raining. I-55 to I-12 I 12 to Covington

Many years ago I’d make that drive pretty often and was always a pretty easy one.
Hwy 27 - Crystal Springs/Utica yeah really cuts out a bit, that Jackson part.

This is correct route…

Leave at 4:30. I do that when I’m heading home to Dallas from my dad’s in Thibodaux. Takes me 7 hours flat. If I leave later, add another 1.5-2 hours to that.

Go through Mississippi. Leaving a 7 or 8 you will hit BR at peak afternoon traffic and sit in traffic for an hour anyway.

We live in Frisco, but depending on where you are in DFW you might take 635 to 80 and then pick up 20 East. In-laws are in West BTR and usually takes 6.5 hours door to door with one stop.

I’m in Wylie - I cut through the back to George Bush then take 30 north to 280 ( I think it is) , and take it to 20 where it and 80 meet.
