Drilling for samples from thousands of years ago / virus edition

Reading a recent article on digging up core samples from 3500 years ago below Antarctica LINK has me thinking. How long before we dredge up some long forgotten plague/human eliminating virus that has laid dormant for years below this shite?
We've see what happens to indigenous species that have no immunity to a pathogen brought in from a "new world" and the decimation that ensued.
All this digging around in shite cold enough to freeze and preserve the specimens being brought up might be cold enough to keep alive some nasty shite I would imagine.
Or perhaps the steroid/Benadryl regimen I'm on currently is getting to me and I really should be sleeping..
This maybe should have been a GMT..

You need a host for a virus.
No hosts on Antarctica...human hosts...at least.

Diseased crap is already walking across southern border.

You sound like a guy that worries about the possible existence of things that would worry you if you knew about them.

I mean, didn’t they just a week or two ago discover an ancient, previously unknown strain of plague in a Swedish tomb?
I’m with you OP. I’ve seen this movie before.

Yep, Hollywood has used this premise in several sci-fi/horror movies over the years.
