Does Nola host a secondline for everything now? I feel like I'm caught in a shitty Treme episode like when Wendell Pierce's wife acted like Nola people track time by counting how many Mardi gras past some event happened.

Dr John is warranted as a local music icon, but every time any Nola character dies (okra man) the hipsters clamor for a secondline. Sort of diminishes the returns of the event for those that truly deserve it.

Haha I agree. But it's better than focusing on all the murders I guess.

I wonder how many of those second liners aren’t even from NOLA. My guess is that it is most of them. Treme made it seem like something everybody in the city took part in. I know they’ve gone on for a long time, but I don’t think i had really ever seen or heard about them happening via the media before that show.

I don’t remember as many bars, restaurants, food trucks, festivals, and concerts before Katrina.
Strange how things change

nola had bars, restaurants, festivals and concerts well before hipster yuppie influence

Food trucks are debatable but they existed just in a different capacity. More in the "roach coach" variety

Overdone

Mardi gras is such a huge deal here. We should have a huge parade every other weekend because it's a reason to party and enjoy yourself. Plus the tourists will love it.

Nah. Just do red dress run and running of the bulls kind of studs if you need more mass crowd pray options.

People like Dr. John, Leah Chase, Allen Toussaint, any of the Marsalis family, Kermit Ruffins, Irma Thomas, etc. WILL have a second line.

Lesser known people probably will have them too.

However, I think that social media is what makes this kind of stuff more known.

Before, it was just the TV news crews reporting on it after the fact.

Or a second line to fix potholes and shitty streets

Dr John deserves any praise or remembrance whatever.

But NOLA has become a caricature of itself. With transplants and nola.com filling social media with “only in New Orleans” shite posts that breed and encourage more “zomg only in New Orleans” shite posts and cringey contrived stereotypical activity.
