Same here before we moved stayed at both hotels 1-2x a month and unless it was a football weekend it was pretty dead. The restuarant at the Watermark is ok. Never got to eat at the Little Village is that good? That pizza place is not good pizza was like cardboard. When I had a room facing the road parallel to the river After 10pm a lot of cars with loud music blaring. It’s pretty dead down there.

Perfectly safe and clean. There are a few harmless homeless people which is annoying but that’s every city. They won’t bother you.
Was downtown at the LSU museum yesterday. Very clean, but at least 30 homeless guys hanging out between that North Blvd. stage area and sleeping on the chairs outside the downtown library. They didn't bother anyone, just hanging out in the middle of the day.
I have no clue why people are so scared of downtown BR. The fear gossip from rednecks who never visit far outweighs any danger present. We had a great time walking around. Decent crowd at Cap City Grill inside and outside. The 5th floor art gallery at Shaw was very well put together.

I really enjoyed downtown Baton Rouge from 2006-2015. Great times.

Have you been at night?
Desirable communities have been figuring out ways to incorporate golf cart parking. Baton Rouge needs a dedicated sling shot lane

For me less than 10 minutes from work and walkable.
For the rest of us it's not worth the drive on a backed up interstate or a shortcut through the ghetto.

I live downtown, go out drinking/eating 1-4 times per week.
Is it boom and bust down there? I tried to get something to eat before the Heart concert in June. Nearly Everything was hours plus wait. Guess they couldn’t handle influx of people? Ended up being squeezed in at Bayes

Thanks for the report.
On my last trip downtown we went to the RC for a hs graduation.
There were no police. Weeds were growing behind the Hilton on the corner. Terrible look.
I think we need some heat cops. I think each budiness should clean up their part of the Downtown.
I think the new regime in the DDD is helping.

I stayed downtown a couple of nights last month.
Happy hour at the River Room was slow, but we were there very early and it was picking up when we left.
During the course of the weekend, we had dinner at Cecelia (really good) and Little Village (ok), had coffee at The Vintage Sunday morning, and got a couple of margaritas at Azteca. All had a lot of people and few empty tables.
We went to the Farmers Market Saturday, and toured the State Museum. Lots of people at the market and a school aged group was having an event at the Museum. We saw some homeless folks as expected. There was not a lot of traffic in the areas we were and a few loud cars passed the hotel during the night. Overall it wasnt bad. We kept alert at night but had no problems at all.
Ghost town really would not be my description.

Copying this from Reddit. It’s a pretty good explanation:
“Downtown was fairly popular about 10-15 years ago. They got a little stricter on open container laws, and some people think that changed things. But, this is also about the time overpass merchant opened up and brought new interest to the overpass area for the recent grad demographic. Ivars/merchant/duvics have done pretty well since then. A few years after that, the government street project kicked off, and more bars opened along that stretch for the same age group.
Most College kids hang out in tigerland. The recent grad/young professional group tend to live in the garden district or mid city, which is close to the overpass area and government street. Older people go to bars/restaurants near where they live. Not enough people in the “going out phase” live downtown. On top of all that, Baton Rouge is low key kind of a family town. It doesn’t have the population of young single people to sustain vibrant nightlife in all of these areas.
There are probably some racial aspects involved as well. If you haven’t noticed there is a big difference between north BR and south BR, and downtown is right in the middle. The city struggles to create a safe atmosphere for both sides to enjoy. The open container laws were probably enforced to combat loitering and fighting. It’s hard to say for sure, but these things are cyclical and downtown will be lively again one day.”

Downtown Hammond has a better nightlife that downtown Baton Rouge.
Sadly, that is not an exaggeration.

SWB killing the light rail line between Downtown and LSU was the epitome of retarded decision making. Feds were putting up 90% of the costs for that project.
But it didn't benefit "the community" in NBR, so she didn't do it.
Dumb cuunt.

I hope Sid can bring some magic back to it.
I know a lot of people (my folks in BR included) were happy when Sid got elected, but what has he done of note in his first 6 months in office? Some people have said that there is less trash around, but I attribute that to the saintly people at Keep Tigertown Beautiful. Those folks work tirelessly cleaning up the city, particularly the areas where homeless tend to congregate. The traffic lights are still wildly out of synch, or at least they were in July when I last visited.

My drive to work is 10 minutes from downtown with no traffic. If drinking 1-3 times a week makes me the town drunk then so be it. Thanks for your input.

I moved here last summer and all the workers say June to Aug is slow. The summer heat is insane so I get it plus other vacations/things to do.
All depends on what night but I have never had an issue. The most popular restaurants I would want a reservation Thursday - Saturday night but walking the strip you will be able to find a spot to eat.

Everyone here simply wants to be negative or complain. I actually live there and they don’t visit but post as if they are correct about the area. I’m actual boots on the ground lol, these people are something else.

The Little Village is great. Schiltz is only good for drunk pizza honestly. There is another pizza play across from the library which is much better
