Yeah - I have a 50 year old house, too. It has tongue and groove sub roof, hardwood floors and terrazzo tile. It's bulletproof, but I need the windows and kitchen updated like it is nobody's business.
But I don't want to spend that much on a 50-year old house. Quite the conundrum.

Hit one of the pins with a hammer and bend it slightly. It will keep the door open. Oh and level your foundation.

We just did the kitchen. We kept the cabinets but did a refinishing treatment on them. The cabinet door pulls were in the center of the door, which was terrible, so we moved the pulls to the corners. We decided to paint and distress the cabinets so that we could fill in the holes left by the center pulls and it wouldn't be noticed. We also put down granite and a new sink. We kept the stove and oven. They are original and old but they work great and are stainless so we went with a stainless look. I am happy with how it came out.

I tried that once, and it didn't last. I fixed it permanently by moving the hinge out slightly as previously described. It's working well for three doors.

Three inch screw into top hole of top hinge. Tighten until door stays open. Don't tighten too much or bottom of door may start to rub door jamb

Either put something behind the bottom or top hinge to kick it out, or pull the hinge pin out and hit it with a hammer to bend it slightly
