It's not like he wrote a lot of great songs beyond American Pie. He is probably close to being considered a one hit wonder. That being said, it's one heck of a song.

Seems like an angry old white guy.

He's correct that there is garbage on the radio, but if he looks beyond radio he'll find better.

Fun fact:

American Pie is so long that it doesn’t fit on one side of a 45 record.

Some people would buy 2 copies so that they can listen to the entire song in one sitting with their automatic record changers.

Hesgot a point. It's a very materialistic, superficial time. Meaning has been stripped from most of our lives. We are a voyeuristic socitity deriving pleasure from external, not internal things.

It's reflected in art.
