Good job.
Thanks! Another thing I do is find extremely popular companies or sports teams and go to their WHOIS to see when their domain will expire. I set reminders for when they'll expire. GoDaddy and others usually give a grace period after expiration for the domain owner to renew. If the company is asleep at the wheel, then there's the potential opportunity to purchase the domain and resell it to them for a large sum. All of mine are on auto renew. Some folks don't have them setup that way.
Back in 2010 the Dallas Cowboys let their domain expire. Read this: Cowboys domain expired This is what I keep an eye on. Grab a domain like this and you will hit the domain lottery.

I'm all for this, but ACPA takes away your leverage in scenarios like that does it not?

I am still holding out on the hope that www.mitchlandrieu2020.org pays off for me.

Honestly, I'm not sure how it would play out if they allowed their domain to expire. They'd have to prove you had no intent to use the name yourself. Hell, you could say you were starting a Dallas Cowboys discussion forum. The names I've bought were for my use anyway. Fishunt.com was used by me as a link site to fishing and hunting guides worldwide. They paid me a monthly fee to place a link on the site. Linking was super popular in the late 1990's. These guides didn't have a clue as to how to build their own website. I own WonOffs.com which I intend to use as a sports betting website if the government ever allows me to do so in Texas. I've also thought about making that one into a fantasy football website.
With that said, I believe showing intent to use would be what is needed to win a ACPA case.

You said big name sports teams and companies. I would just be cautious.
