It's always fun to watch a dog jump over the baby gate. Even better is when he chews a hole in the plastic mesh and jumps right through it.
My first crate was a wire crate and my dog figure out how to bang against the side and unhinge the top, so I wired the top shut and that bastid still squeezed through the top corner leaving a good bit of hair behind.

Just like they do with Grandma...

Always crate train and don't stop until the dog is much older, as in several years. Large dogs can hold their pee a long time, 6 hours is nothing. For the training, use the smallest crate possible so it cant shite on one side and lay down in the other. A smaller boxer likely can fit in a 30" vari kennel, 36" might be a little big, 40" will be huge. Go with the 36" and block off a section if it's too big. As others have said, they learn to love it or atleast tolerate it.
Other points. You will never come home to something messed up in your house if the dog is kenneled. If the dog, esp a trained one, has an accident, it's not happy about the situation either. If you ever need to travel with the dog in a kennel, putting the dog in a kennel the morning of a flight or a long ride is setting the dog up for failure. Consider the daily routine practice.
Good luck with the boxer. They are great dogs.

People are saying crate them for years, but I guess it depends on the breed my Aussies were fully trained in 4-8 months and out of the cage. One liked to chew shite but he picked my ex-wifes stuff to chew, give him a book shelf and he would always choose on of my wife's books. That's when I knew he would be a good dog.

But they are arguably the best breed
They are a great breed. I've spent a lot of time around family member's boxers. But I've found about half of them are incredibly stupid. Though the dumbest ones have also the most beautiful ones. So I think it's an inbreeding problem. That's why I was wanting to find a mutt when I adopted.
But they are definitely one of my favorite breeds.

Aussies are smart enough to unlock the door to let themselves out. The thread is about regular dogs.
