As a manager, sometimes You have to publicly care for the people who abuse. So it’s kind of unspoken but in general you can take sick time for any non-vacation. Or vacation if you slick and quiet about it, and do your fricking job.

Yep. Go to work to get other people sick who don’t have your mind set, so they won’t come to work. That way you can really slow down productivity of the work place.

My firm is like this it is all personal days outside vacation. My staff has all been with me for at least 15 years, if they tell me they need a day off they get it even if they are out of personal days and they still get paid.
Associates are different, they never take time off. I went 29 months as an associate without taking any time off it stopped when my mom had a stroke. They know less than 40% of them will make partner and they aren't going to do anything to jeopardize that gravy train.

My employer(Raymond James Financial) lets us use sick days as vacation days.
