East of I-45 = south. Very much so. Culture, accent, landscape, food... however you want to define it.

Texas is equal parts Southern, Southwestern, Midwestern, and Mexican.

North Texas = Midwestern
East Texas = Southern
South Texas = Mexican
West Texas = Southwestern
Central Texas = Mix of all 4

Texas from Houston east and say Prairieview South is just as Southern as the I10 corridor in La which some also debate on that. It's a little like Florida. South by Geography, but those three areas just have a different feel from what is really considered the deep south even the metropolis of ATL.

Texas is merely Northern Mexico. As such they should solely be referred to as Texicans.
