Sometimes you just need to vent anonymously and I prefer the brutal honestly of a board/community I've been a part of for the better part of a decade than some backslapping/it's all okay circle jerk on Reddit or Tumblr (No I don't have a Tumblr and I don't identify as Unicornkin)

Last night I had a night terror for the first time in I don't know how long, and it was a violent one. Luckily, my girlfriend wasn't there. I woke up and thought someone or something was in the house. Speed being the better part of valor in my mind (my initial reaction to danger is to get the hell away from the danger unless there's no other option), I ran out of the house at a dead sprint. I ended up eventually face planting about two buildings away because coordination sucks when you're half asleep and being chased by the Slenderman. Tore up my hands and foot pretty bad. That big toenail is definitely coming off. When I finally came to, I was completely lucid. Limped back to my apartment, got out the first aid kit, treated my bloody hamburger of a foot, put some ice on it and went to sleep.

I've been dealing with insomnia, anxiety, minor depression and an almost pathological tendency to procrastinate (I just can't start projects even easy ones).

I've been dealing with this shite for since I was 12, so over 20 years. It has ruined relationships, led to legal issues, etc.

Finally went to the doctor about it (thanks Obama) he puts me on meds to help me sleep (didn't take those last night) low dose of anti-depressants (Effexor) and some Xanax to take as needed (I normally need about half a pink pill once or twice a week because it helps with work related anxiety).

I feel like this is just getting worse every year.

The reason I ask about families is because of the way my Mother and Grandmother are and were.

Grandmother was a complete hypochondriac and prone to hysterics. She was dying for 50 years. The woman lived to be 92 but was dying since she turned 40. She actually "went to bed" for a YEAR when my mother was a child. Her last 4 months she developed an addiction to nutmeg and went completely insane.

My Mom is a workaholic with severe anxiety issues that's prone to fits of hysteria. The sweetest kindest woman you've ever met and then evil she bitch from hell within 2 seconds. She's 62 now and is getting worse. In fact, more like my grandmother every day.

I just worry this is never going away and will only get worse.

Listen, I just needed to vent. Feel free to insult, throw out funny memes or offer advice.

I'm just concerned. I don't want to drink myself to death, but life is not particularly fulfilling or joyful right now and I know the reason is me.

TL/DR

Grandmother is crazy. Mom is crazy. Now, I'm going crazy.

ETA: Wow, didn't mean to write a novel, but give me credit for the paragraph breaks and mostly proper grammar.

I'm sorry you're dealing with that. Ugh. It's not a fun way to live.

At least you didn't lock yourself out of your house.

Now that would suck.

Yes. Mental disorders absolutely run along the genetic path.

My family is nuttier than squirrel shite.....I, myself, have had to train myself to recognize certain traits to keep on a steady path. Kudos to my wife for bringing much of it to my attention

As a medical professional I would advise you to get into some therapy to help you with your problems. Medication may make you feel better but it sounds like you needs some help getting insight into your procrastination issues and such.

As an OT-habitue' I'd advise you that you have the AIDS

My mom and her mom are crazy. My significant other and her mom are crazy... Every girl I've ever been friends with was crazy... Maybe it's just a woman thing and it's wearing off on you now

I don't let it phase me. I just choose to ignore it and let whatever the situation is work itself out. They usually just calm down and go watch Ellen or something.

Agreed.

Last time this happened (but just sleep walking) I was living in the top level condo built into a hill. So it had this bridge that crossed from the parking lot to the walk-in level.

So the there was about a twenty foot drop to the at a very steep incline to what amounted to the basement, storage level.

I ended up at the bottom, knocked unconscious. Cops found me. Thought I was drunk or high. Realized I wasn't...just concussed after I tried to go in the wrong building -- twice. Found my wallet and keys halfway down the hill, walked me in to my place and called my girlfriend at the time to come sit with me. I ended up cracking three ribs that night.

Most of the time, stress causes this shite to happen. Back then, the market had just crashed, I was an appraiser and about to get laid off and lose my condo, car and dog.

Yeah, the addiction to nutmeg is really odd. Is that a thing? Does consuming nutmeg in large quantities get you high or something?

Quick answer yes

n almost pathological tendency to procrastinate (I just can't start projects even easy ones).

Fix this about yourself, and you will not need the pills.

It's called growing up, and at 32 you should have done it by now. I had a similar problem when I was younger. (I am also 32.) I just decided to get myself organized. Now, I sleep like the dead with no worries about finances or shite that I should have done.

Me too. Reminded me of Dr. Evil's rant at group therapy. Luge lessons in Rangoon, we wore meat helmets you know the usual stuff.

She was a French Prostitute named Chloe with webbed feet.

Its not that simple. Some people have extreme anxiety when it comes to starting things. "Grow up" is something that someone with no experience with mental disorders would say.

To answer your subject question; yes, it does run it families.

Only advice I've got for you is to just stop thinking that you're crazy. Whatever you speak into your life is what your life will be. Believe that you are a good, intelligent, strong person and don't let the negativity of circumstance affect how you live your life. I know it's easier said than done, but give optimism a try.

Oh, I still laugh about it today. She had some Indian doctor she loved. He told her that for her stomach issues take a little nutmeg (like a teaspoon), mix it with milk and it helps with indigestion. That's a real thing. It works.

Well, grandma being grandma. If a little will help A LOT is surely better.

So she's going through a big can of this shite a day.

Nutmeg in a large dose makes you suffer from paranoid delusions and you hallucinate.

I told my Mom that. She didn't believe me, researched it and then cut Grandma off the nutmeg.

Grandma was calling family members to take her to the store to buy cases of nutmeg.

When she died, we looked under the bed and there must have been 20 empty cans in a grocery bag.

quote:

Bundled up within the molecular structure of nutmeg is a potent substance called myristicin. When swallowed and digested this reactive oil is altered by metabolic processes in the body, morphing into a type of amphetamine that can cause its user to experience a sustained euphoria, and sometimes hallucinations, both of which can range from moderate to extreme in their intensity, depending on the quantity of nutmeg consumed. The consciousness-changing effects of nutmeg usually do not begin to manifest until a few hours after it has been ingested, but once they do become evident they can last for up to 24 hours before finally abating.

quote:

Nutmeg is no exception to the rule; the types of hallucinations it causes, for example, are far from desirable for most who foolishly choose to gobble it up by the spoonful. Frightening visions of destruction and doom, followed by feelings of intense hostility and paranoia, are the most common calling cards of the myristicin that gives nutmeg its intoxicating reputation, and some users have even reported homicidal or suicidal thoughts while trying to come down from the terrifying and surreal side effects that usually accompany a ride on the nutmeg roller coaster.

I had severe OCD so bad as a child I would stop breathing. Tack that on to my ADHD and dyslexia, yeah I can sympathize with the OP. However, at some point, you have to take command of your life. Start the projects that bother you, no matter how petrified you are. Do it a few times, and you get over it. I'm not giving this advice to be a dick. I am saying it as someone who understands the OP very well.

I agree with you that this is an important part of it.

I agree.

Hell this is on my mirror. I read it every morning.

Begin - to begin is half the work, let half still remain; again begin this, and thou wilt have finished.

I try every day. But the night terror is what is freaking me out.
