Does Coonass=Cajun?
"Canaille: Cajun adjective (kah-NIGH) used to describe a person who is usually hiding something, such as true intentions or ulterior motives."

no
Many cajuns are coonasses, but not all coonasses are Cajuns
Cajun is an ethnicity (decedents from French colonists in Nova Scotia, Canada)
Coonass is a way of life.

My Paw Paw was born and raised in Mansura, spoke French before he learned English. He was a proud cajun, but don't you dare call him a coonass. To his generation, that was akin to the N word. He came from a time when being cajun was not held in as high regard as it is now.
Luckily, times have changed and Louisianians have embraced their unique and awesome heritage and fully own both "cajun" and "coonass" as badges of honor.

Yes, some of the Acadiens who were kicked out by the British did go to these other places. However, they, and their descendants would not be Cajuns. Cajun culture developed in Louisiana (and certain limited surrounding areas).

I'm not saying that at all. If a Cajun moved to NYC and had kids, those kids would be of Cajun decent. But if an Acadien kicked out of Acadia by the British in the 18th century moved to Maine and raised a family there, that person and that person's descendants would not be Cajuns.

Hell, I tell my two kids that they are Louisianans even though they were both born and raised up here and their mother was born and raised in Brooklyn.
