Does anyone have an update on the LSU Lakes makeover?

Planning to attend some games this year and would love to see newly fixed up LSU lakes.

From the recent videos around LSU, Huey’s idea for digging the lakes and piling the dirt up into mounds on campus isn’t working.

It's going great, the lakes look fantastic and the project has been carried on without any delays as you would expect from the powers that be in this city.
I kid, they left all the dredged dirt in the lake so there's now an island full of trash trees that blocks the view across it and May St has been closed for months with seemingly no urgency to ever get it back open.

It's taking longer and costing more than expected. By a lot.
What'd you expect from Louisiana?
It will be worth it though IMO. They were fricking gross and stunk. They could be a really cool thing if this is done properly.
Controversial opinion, but I also think they should let homes on the water have small piers/docks. With some restrictions on size and materials, etc.

The small lake by Miller Hall is basically a mud lake at this point. What are they trying to accomplish there?

I remember a few years ago they said the target date for the project bring completed was by the LSU-Clemson game in BR
It’ll never be ready in time

Their ideas for plants on the shoreline is going about how you’d expect. But at least with the gentler slopes it’ll be easier to bush hog and keep mowed when people get sick of the overgrowth and give up. The slopes were near impossible to maintain before and always overgrown.
To their credit, even with silt still getting stirred up, the water looks MUCH better than I ever remember. The deepening has definitely improved the water quality. It has motion to it now.
Jury still out on the May Street Bridge. If they get that right it’ll be a big redeeming quality.
I know nobody likes the expanded shorelines but that’s what you get when we can’t afford to transport the dredge material offsite. People also don’t like the islands, but same deal as the shorelines, and they’ll eventually be really attractive for birds and wildlife.

That's sad. They were nice when I was at LSU

Add a place that rents those small boats near City Park. It could be a really fun destination.

The vision plan and the associated visuals looked great. The execution has been poor and a huge lost opportunity to dramatically improve this community asset. $81 million for the current mess, that does not include all the pathway improvements, which was part of the initial vision.
I believe about another $50 million is needed to complete the project, including Wampold Park enhancements and the widening of the Corporate Canal into another small lake. Only $14 million has been secured from FEMA for the Corporate Canal section, which connects Stanford to Sorority Row and addresses some drainage issues.
One of the biggest concerns expressed by those attending a town hall meeting, is the ongoing maintenance once completed.

What they have already planted is going to look bad quickly if it’s not already. The upkeep around the trees they planted is going to be difficult. It could have been planted to over grow without looking like it was overgrown. No one will cut the grasses between the trees in a timely/regular manner so you’re just going to get brush very soon.
