I think the 2016 flood caused a lot of people to relocate as well.

And it caused a lot of people to buy in areas they wouldn’t have before

BR has zero personality or culture. Possibly the most "meh" city in the south.

And somehow doesn't have any of the charm that most college towns have either.

I moved here ion 2000 from Lake Chuck. I preferred Lake Chuck, but not so sure I want to go back since all the growth. A helluva lot has changed in both places and not for the better.

Of all places, I preferred Houston Memorial Area where I lived for 7 years to Dec 1989. Great schools close to anything I wanted to do there. I did live in SoCal (Seal Beach) for two years in the early 90's and it was great the first 6 months but the people were so frigging annoying especially the surfer types. It was like everyone was uber PC hoping to be discovered by Hollywood. Worked better than valium for them. Also, most had zero common sense and knew diddly squat about the world away from CA. Neighbor chick and her friend were going to make a cross country trip in her VW Beetle and asked if they needed AC in the car. (summer trip after graduated h.s.)

Just hope and pray you don’t get yourself involved in a car accident with one of those of retards. They’ll call Gordon up with the quickness in an attempt to scam and fleece your insurance carrier out of thousands, if not tens of thousands claiming “bodily injury”

I live in Central which is in Greenwell Springs on the outskirts of Baton Rouge. I love it here. I live in a nice subdivision and I can go to Austin, North Louisiana or Houston to visit family any time I want. I love it here and I love my house and surroundings. My doctors office is a hop, skip and a jump off the Central Thruway, Wal-Mart and Carters is right down the road and there are plenty of places to get a drink/food and party. To each his own.

Central is nowhere near as safe as it was years ago.

Central's biggest flaw is that it's too close to BR. I lived there from 1978-1996 and again for a year in 2006. It doesn't have crime anywhere close to BR but I think it was inevitable that those neighborhoods closest to Plank/Glen Oaks would start going down - like Tanglewood, Carmel Acres, Monhegan. Basically, the closer it is to Mickens Rd the more likely it is to decline.

Those neighborhoods down Hooper have been declining little by little since the mid 90s. Sharon Hills used to be a very nice middle class neighborhood.

We live in Denham and family lives in Central. Stevendale in between is horrible. Driving down Florida Blvd or Old Hammond is downright depressing. We drove down Sullivan road today and my husband commented that the road construction has been a better part of a decade now.

Fun side note- bought our house in 2013 and the realtor commented on our "prestigious" address which I found to be a joke since it is in the LP but we do live on an old money street. You can almost watch the crime increase monthly here now....

Baton Rouge

I only go back for funerals. I lived in the ghetto for my childhood, and as much as I love LA people and the cuisine, BR is a distant memory, not worth repeating.

I wish someone would share this thread with the mayor’s office. Not that I think it would do any good, but at least to let her know that her inaction to all of these problems only keeps this city in it’s current condition, and she is a very real part of that, and the egress that takes place in BR is only going to reduce the revenue she has to work with now and in the future. The more people leave the more difficult it will be to do anything about it. It’s simply not going to get better until she begins to actually lead and show something is being done about all of it.

The crime used to be in one certain area but if you look at it over the years, first BON Marche got taken over and then Cortana got the same thing…anything north of Fla blvd from O Neal to downtown is basically a war zone…. It’s just not safe.
