Grew up in BR. Loved it as a kid, but as an adult the only thing I see that BR has going for it going for it is quick access to LSU games. Family keeps people living in the city. That’s why a ton of people move to AP or LP. Come on out, we have the same potholes, dirty politicians and litter bugs but somehow the schools are pretty good in most areas. When the kids grow up, all bets are off. All the LSU games are on TV these days

Baton Rouge suffers from an inflated ego. One generation thinks it’s Austin, another thinks it’s New Orleans, another thinks it’s Atlanta before it burned.

60’s thru early 80’s Baton Rouge was a great little town to raise a family.

...

Today BR has a lot of negatives public schools, traffic, taxes not being directed properly, and crime

The schools aren't bad. You just took all the good kids out of them and what is left is not as good. If you put the good kids back in they would be fine.

Goat Rider, can you elaborate?

I’m considering a move to CO and would like insight. I love hiking, overlanding etc.

How bad are the winters in Boulder? Ever have to chain your tires etc

Winters here aren't as bad as you may think. Unlike the the midwest and northeast, the snow actually melts here due to the abundant sunshine and high elevation. We often have snow one day and you can go without a jacket the next day. It's not the heavy wet snow that falls here. My wife and I drive 4 wheel drive vehicles and put on snow tires during the winter. I've never felt the need to put chains on time tires.
The summers are amazing here. Very low humidity. The temperature can get above 90 degrees, but it cools off quickly as the sun goes down. I don't run my A/C on some days during the summer and can cool the house just by opening the windows.

Hiking and biking trails are abundant and there are plenty of state parks for camping and hiking especially if you head west towards the front range. If you like beer you'll love it here. There are plenty of breweries and beer festivals during the summer. .

Let me know if you have any other questions.

I don’t mind it, but I’d be lying if I said things haven’t got substantially worse over the last few years.

Still worth it being close to family and friends IMO

I’ve been back since I retired from the Air Force and don’t hate it all. I have a great job and good circle of friends. So, for me, the positives outweigh the negatives. I will, however, look at relocating in 2025 or so, when I retire from my current job. It’s not because of Baton Rouge but the fact I’ve always wanted to live in a beach community.

Do it.

You won't regret it.

At least, probably not. There are places worse than BR it turns out.

The funniest part of the Deep South is the pretentious "elite"

Particularly in Louisiana. You have this bizarre infatuation with class.

Yes - and it’s magnified in Baton Rouge, Lafayette, and Monroe
