To do anything fun and interesting in Baton Rouge, you have to leave Baton Rouge.
Define fun and interesting. I feel like there is way too much vagueness when discussions like this come up, especially when it comes to this.

I'm gonna need you to list all this fun shite in BR I've been missing out on.
Swine Palace has four productions with professional actors.
There's comedy going on at least weekly LINK /
The Family Dinner have been doing improv for 16 years and have a regular spot at Hartley/Vey LINK /
Music acts come through town with enough frequency that you can see at least two shows a month that you like LINK
Aside from all this, you can bowl cheap, drink cheap, drink outside, bike alone the Mississippi levee while the sun sets on the other side...
Not a one of us can fit all this into our schedule. If you think there's nothing fun to do in Baton Rouge, you're a lazy, boring Debbie Downer.

You are correct in that everyone likely has a different definition of what fun and interesting means to them.
To me, BR is good for drinking/eating and spending time with friends/family... eating or drinking.
Outside of that, there is no where to explore (think, walking around Nola either Uptown or the Quarter), do outdoor type things (hiking/boating/fishing/hunting - all outside of BR unless I am overlooking something), etc.
If other people are able to find enough things inside of BR to stimulate them, keep them occupied and happy - then great. I just cannot.

Many of which are women's basketball, softball, sand volleyvall, swimming, etc, etc so disingenuous argument.

You can do this literally almost anywhere.
So half the shite you said is objectively not fun or unique by most of the population.

I think you are trying to convince yourself that moving back to BR from NYC is a good idea. Which is fine... just stop trying to convince everyone else, because we disagree.
We've already said its fine to live here and raise a family when majority of your own family lives here. We get that.
Just admit - it does not have a whole lot going on. You can do it.

Have you thought about Houston? It seems like half of Houston is from Louisiana.
No state income tax. In the burbs of Houston, you have amazing public schools which will save you money on private school tuition, great housing prices, cheaper house insurance, car insurance is half, cheap electric, cheaper water bills. TX invests heavily in infrastructure. Don't be startled when you see roads being widened, new schools being built everywhere, top hospitals, etc..

quote:You'd be surprised. I saw Noises Off last year at the Shaver, and it was damn good. Most of the actors in Swine Palace shows are touring pros from all around the world. Forgot if you live in BR, but you're coming across as someone who'd rather sit at home on a message board bitching about how boring your town is than get out and support those who actually make the city as interesting and fun as it is.

You live in the greatest city in the world and you're posting on a message board about a city 5% as big and .0001% as wealthy. What does that say about you?

quote:You're just being unnecessarily negative here. There's four SEC football home games, 9 SEC home men's basketball games, 6 weekend home baseball series vs. Power 5's, and softball and gymnastics are fun for an occasional casual viewing. That right there is more than 20 fun events if you don't want to go to more than 1 baseball game over a weekend.
