Does anybody know the legalities of using a backyard fire pit?

We had a shitload of branches downed with the ice storm. So I started burning the twigs and limbs in our fire pit. A neighbor went nuts and cussed me out and called the fire department on me. Apparently she was a little miffed about smelling smoke. I guess she couldn't call the police and force them change the wind direction.

Anybody else get complaints from neighbors about your use of a fire pit?

I burn shite in my fire pit nearly year round. If I cut a branch or prune a plant, I just toss that shite and light it on fire. frick the environment.

This is all a local ordinance. It’s possible it’s illegal somewhere like downtown in a big city but doubtful. Never heard of a backyard fire pit being against the law.

Depends on if you’re in a no burn ban order. With the recent conditions, I doubt you are. Burn away. We love our outdoor fire pit.

Part of her hysterics were about this being within city limits.

If you live in a city or town with burn ordinances, it could be against the "law". Those ordinances could also govern how you can burn. If there is a current and active burn ban for your area (not likely this time of year in the Southeast), it is against the law.

Otherwise, you're good to go.

What did the FD tell you the legalities were? That would be the better response than any you’re going to get here.

You really didn't need to say that. The smoke from your little pit isn't much of an impact on the environment.

It's definitely illegal, and the FBI is likely already building a massive case against you.

The fire dept guys seemed to be a little confused about it too. You're only supposed to burn "woody" items but I showed them the limbs I was burning and they just kinda shrugged. I think they want you to burn split logs but that's just larger limbs.

Burning limbs and yard debris is just a courtesy thing. They generally smoke a lot more than split wood intended for a fire pit.
