Does a girl look prettier next to an ugly or attractive guy?

Sorry no pics, just a question. I remember reading about how ugly girls look more attractive next to pretty girls, but am thinking if you have a girl 7 standing next to guy 9 and another pic of her standing next to a guy 5, which would she look prettier?
If you're introducing your new girl to your friends/co-workers/parents, should you get all dolled up, use hair gel and shave or do you go ragged for her benefit?
