I don't like putting my engine through an unnecessary stop and start and depreciating it by that much every time I fill up gas.

This thread is how I first found out people don’t turn the engine off when refueling.

smart, that really saves gas, pro tip: put a brick on the accelerator when the tank is half full, in the morning you’ll have a full tank of gas

Not for those of us that need to let the revs settle first. And it takes one more start off the life of your starter and engine.

I don't use my lights until 10:00 pm, don't use my blinker when I turn and I run red lights and stop signs. Why would I turn off my engine when I get gas?

True story:
I popped open the gas cap on a rented Dodge Challenger and found a half-smoked joint.
Turned in the roach to the rental company...
( OK, that last part isn't true...)

I didn’t turn my B-52 when we refueled but I turn off my car when I get gas.
Darn, I never gave that contradiction a second thought.

If I’m alone I will. If my wife is in the car I leave it running.

All these folks saying never doesn’t translate to my experience at the gas station over several decades of driving. People usually cut their engines off at the pump.

No because I'm not an idiot that smokes cigarettes at a gas pump
Anybody who has worked in the oi industry knows that the way to put a cigarette out is to push it an inch or so deep in a gas can.
