Tithing is s basepoint. Over and above is beyond that and is a joy to do.

For eternal salvation, like infinity...should not the Bible be ultra, ultra, ultra crystal clear? No question about it?

Educate me on this.
I will puzzle with you.

My thinking is that the Word is actually pretty clear on the most vital issues, but you are expected to wrestle with some parts of it - IF you are serious about it. Part of your sanctification process is gaining a greater understanding through study and reflection.

You should also realize that the Bible was translated from some very different languages over time after being violently suppressed by a church which bizarrely claims credit for "giving" us the Bible when what we have actually did not come from their version.

It is miraculous that we got it at all.

I am happy to have a variety of them to compare in my studies.

All of these cost next to nothing. You are paying for drums, geetars and them high-falutin headsets. Anyone who gives 10% in Baton Rouge doesn't recall the Swaggart years.
This greatly depends on the accountability of various churches and denominations. Some are very open and have strong processes which prevent waste, pilferage, fraud and abuse. Others are clearly just bilking weak minded attendees.
Take the time to ask good questions before joining.

So ironically at that time, I gave too much to the church, and I burned craploads of money at strip clubs.

I make well north of a million a year and I write a check each year for 10% of what my AGI is to our church. I also fund a dental mission trip each year to Jamaica to do work for a week each year.

I have been richly blessed in my life and consider it a blessing to be able to be generous with my money.

I know quite a few people in my profession who are very successful and I would wager that most are just as generous as I am.
