I always go check out their vehicle. If it is messy as shite I will not hire them.
If they can't care for their own stuff, how am I to believe that they will take care of mine.

My lost boss would not hire an auditor with chrome added to their vehicle.
It may have been smart, or he may have just been a racist

You sound like a guy who isn't in charge of interviewing people.

I've been on the other side a few times. The strangest one was an interview with a local utility company in their accounting department. There were 6 people interviewing me simultaneously, and all were furiously taking notes the entire time. It was about 5-6 years ago, and it seemed like a great place to work from what I had heard.
The recruited told me I would meet with the CFO and Controller. I get there and they introduce themselves, and take me to a large conference room. They seat me at the head of the table, and then 4 others in the department walked in and sat down. One was an accounting manager, the other three were staff level. The execs started it off by each asking me a question, then it went around the table with each person asking me something. The questions alone were nothing out of the ordinary, I just thought it was odd that a staff person who I would have been managing was asking me questions related to accounting policy. Obviously I don't know their policy, I had never worked there previously.
After the first lap around, the questions seemed to be in no particular order. It wasn't like one person asked me something, and another wanted to follow up on that and get more out of the answer. They just bounced around between topics. I can't remember if they called me back for another interview as I wouldn't have worked there anyway.

See, they TOOK you to the conference room. Rando would have had his secretary lead you to the break room, where food is. Key difference between the real world and Rando's.
