Actually. That's not true. There is a La law (and all states) that you must always stop when crossing a sidewalk regardless if people or walking or not. And regardless if it's own your property or not.

I don't have a sidewalk, so no. I do check the street for cars and walkers, etc.

Same here, lots of younger kids in my neighborhood. Have to watch out when I'm backing up, never know when one of them is going to dart our behind something.
Luckily I leave to go to work at 5 am so usually not a problem.
