So glad someone else has noticed this. I've almost posted about it myself but I knew people would shite on it (probably because they say 'right' all the time themselves).
It's gotten so prevalent that it's nearly impossible to avoid. The list of 'right?' over-users is so long I can't even list them all. Sports figures, movie stars, talking head politicos, podcasters, management types, and even regular folks (including friends of mine). It's infuriating.
Adding 'right' when in the middle of making a point is basically forcing the listener to concede a premise, and from that point forward, the 'right' user now builds the case based upon a premise that you, as a listener, never actually accepted. It's a condescending argument technique many people don't even realize they're using, and as the quoted poster states, it usually comes from people who think they're really smart, and whose position on a subject they believe is beyond any kind of reproach.
