I have one in San Jose so that I have a cheap place to store my stuff in California while I'm in Louisiana for long periods. $68 a month for a storage unit is a lot cheaper than $1000 or more to pay rent on a room I'm not using.

I have three. One for the boat. One for furniture. The other for holiday decorations.

No...we have ridiculous storage in my 3,200 sf detached garage. And a 15 x 15 room sealed off room in the barn.

I need this.

In the early 00's I was in a band that rented a climate controlled one for a rehearsal space. The band leader tinkered with the light fixture to provide power for the guitar amps and whatnot.

HOA's won't let you store boats, so baws in really nice neighborhoods don't have much of a choice.

Speaking of hobby items, there is a guy who is always at his unit Saturday morning so it's easy to see what is in there. It is filled with those radio controlled airplanes. Also had a motorcycle in there. Figured it was an agreement with the wife to not have all his toys in the garage or keep the expensive toys away from the kids. Probably worth the $1200 a year for the peace.

Paid $160 a month for 7-8 years because my wife put a bunch of stuff up, not I can't remember what the hell is in there so I'm just letting it go.

When I was in a band in the 90’s we used a storage unit to practice. It was loud as hell even with foam and mattresses leaning against the walls.
I had a loser friend that lived in one for a few months. He would shower at other people’s houses and shite in a bucket.
Sometimes I wish I had one to hang out in get away from the family. A $150.00 per month man cave might not be a bad idea.

I had one for a while when trying to sell my condo by LSU just to get clutter out of the way.

Also for a few months in Knoxville when we moved here. I moved all my brewing supplies and tools ahead of time.

Neither were intended to be long term or turned into long term.

Quit paying the monthly and let them auction it off.

May build some eventually but currently have one boat storage and planning to build a second.

Current one is just under 30,000 sq/ft building and 2.5 acres. Trying to keep expanding as it is much lower risk than my other business and way less headaches(employees).

The fact they either can’t afford a property or house to keep their boat or the fact they just love throwing money away for their lack of planning.

Why is that? Boats bring down the property value?

That's something I would never have. It's almost like a property tax you're voluntarily signing up for. Purge and be free, people!
