No smoke detector, only a housemaid when she doesn’t follow instructions

You need a heat detector in your garage. Not a smoke alarm.

Cause of the fire was a messed up chimney flue. So now I need a new one of those as well as a new heater.

Found this on the google machine

Recommended Attic Fire Detection
Heat Detectors: These are specifically designed for attics, garages, and furnace rooms.
Fixed-Temperature: Triggers at a specific high temperature (e.g., 135°F or 194°F).
Rate-of-Rise (ROR): Detects rapid temperature increases, often combined with a fixed temp, and is ideal for attics where temperatures don't usually climb quickly but can in a fire.
Specialized Systems: Products like Safer Alarms offer heat sensors with separate, remotely located alarms, detecting fires at their source (like lithium batteries) and sounding an alarm in living areas.

Lightning struck our house one morning years ago. Started a fire in the attic. My daughter’s room was upstairs. She smelled the smoke and alerted me. At least 20 min went by before upstairs smoke detectors went off.
When we rebuilt house, we added detectors in attic through alarm system.

That's what I have in mine. One over each unit and one over the stove and over the garage.

The chimney flue issue caused your heater to catch fire, or your heater’s flue or vent had a problem that caused your heater to catch fire?

smoke detectors don’t do well in garages.

So i need a new furnace flue. It allowed water to enter the furnace and created dangerous conditions that allowed the heater to catch fire inside.

My grandfather had one of the earliest Fire Attic Alarms. When their house was selling, my Dad and I were cleaning out the attic area. Above the stove area, we found a bag of fire crackers, once the fire reached above the stove attic, they would go off.
