Do you have a living will? (Different than your standard will related to your death)

Had my neighbor telling me how important it is to have one. He was relentless.

And no, he wasn’t selling anything.

I had always thought it was a simple document that said whether or not you want to be kept alive if you are going to be a vegetable and eating food through a straw for the rest of your life.

No, I figure who cares if I’m dead….because I’m dead.

Wouldn’t you just leave whatever you have to your wife and kids? Or your parents? That’s pretty much automatic unless you hate one or the other

Y’all it makes your wishes known should you be incapacitated.

Like do you want mechanical/artificial breathing (vent), do you want cpr, do you want tube feedings if you can’t eat.

That kind of thing. It’s important.

Oh nevermind. You said living will.

Well yeah I guess that is something between you and your spouse and/or parents.

Just pull the plug on me. I don’t wanna be a burden on anyone

Get it on paper. Someone might make you suffer for who knows how long!

Yes, realized the importance of a plan already being laid out to make it easier on your family

I’m worth more dead than I am alive. They know what to do. I don’t have to spell it out for them.

It definitely made me realize that I would not want to burden my family with that if I was unable to talk, move, and eat by myself.

At that point I’m not sure how much my family would enjoy being around me (kinda like right now).

Medical bills gotta be $$$$$ and care is 24/7.

Louisiana has a specific form this needs to be in to be valid and to be honored.

I used to work with a woman who had a heart attack at a young age and was in a coma. She didn't have a living will or advanced directive and the hospital put a lot of pressure on her parents to pull the plug and donate her organs. They were very religious and didn't want to do it but the docs gave them the "Jesus has her in a headlock and he ain't lettin' go" speech.

Then she woke up and made a full recovery. Oops.

That made me re-think things a bit. Of course I got most of that information from her and she was always a bit crazy, so who knows.
