is it a 501-c3 entity? the church? or do you even know?
I went, not to church, but on not knowing the Scriptures for many many years, til I finally ran into a fantastic teacher, and not a preacher, if you know the difference...
I appreciate a good teaching, but can't stand preaching. And I'm wary of 501-c3 agents...
I hope you are getting something out of it...
But I'm also wary of those who know the bible very well, and try to say that "well, if you dont memorize verse XXX and YYY, and you need to know verse PPP", yet they dont entirely practice what they memorize in reality.
I'm not a fan of talking, I believe silent teaching is the best, and at the least you should practice with actions, and only very sparingly revert to words. I find there are far more talkers, know-it-alls, who would rather sit and convince you with words, yet never concern themselves with the physical aspect of everything.
For instance, "missionaries" from the US who go off to other 3rd world countries where people are starving, in poor health, and can barely manage to scrape up clean water , and instead of bringing food, water, and help with health, they would rather not bring food, or water, or health, they sit them down and "tell them about the good news".
Wtf is that?!?! Its infuriating.

Nope. This world would be so immensely better if religion didn't exist.

Does anyone else share my life long experience that women seem to be more susceptible to religious dogma and superstition than men?
Oh jeebus yes. Women are the worst about it. I can't stand that either. Especially if its white southern affluent Christian women.

They are in denial about religious dogmatism, and they have contradictory beliefs.
They just involve themselves to make theirselves feel better IMO. They don't gaf about making a positive impact on the world around them...because well...they've just got to concern themselves with looking pretty, marrying rich, and then becoming that preachy stay at mom.

While I agree religious beliefs have caused many issues, this is a terrible terrible argument.
WHy?
Because you can't just remove religion from human history. It has played such a huge role, how do you know something else wouldn't have taken its place that was equally or MORE destructive and divisive?
Obviously it came about as a result of natural curiosities to explain the world and how people operated...so what could have formed instead of religion?
You realize religion grew out from philosophy and basic fundamental beliefs about the natural world? Even science itself grew from the same soil of religion if you go back far enough, and anyone who denies that needs to get their facts straight.
So I ask, if not religion then what? Hell, how do you know the motives weren't already there, but religion was simply the medium used to "justify" those actions? Maybe those wars would have been fought on other grounds even without a religious medium.

Yep, I know enough people that go just to throw it in other peoples faces. I mean, its cool to go if thats your thing but if your going to be a dick the other 6 days of the week you're doing it wrong.
I'm in the process of buying a house and the seller's agent is a young woman who is the wife of a baptist preacher. She has been a horrible person to deal with: hanging up on and yelling at my agent and my mortgage broker, changing dates on addendums to the original bell-sell agreement (even changing the year on the most recent one), lying about the sellers being several months behind on their mortgage, lying about being able to close, and just overall being a huge bitch about everything.
Yet, she tries to present this image of a young Christian woman who is doing the "Lord's work" along with her husband. She claims they are annointed by Christ to preach the gospel, and she brags on Facebook about inspiring others to Christ, but every agent that I have talked to can't stand her and have given similar stories about her behavior.
I despise assholes who hide behind a fake, religious persona. If there is a hell, I will take pleasure in seeing them there.

My comment about comparing modern christianity in the U.S. to ISIS is in reference to both groups pushing for a theocratic form of government.
When you see a presidential candidate being introduced this year to an audience of christians who give applause to the comment that the bible says that all homosexuals should be put to death,
that's a wake up call that being passive to that type of evil is not working.
If I did accept the bible literally, I would be convinced that the money changers are in the temple again and they've got the congregation worshiping Saul over Jesus and that sure ain't gettin anyone into heaven.

I have no idea what would take it's place but I know there would be a hell of a lot less hate and violence if it didn't exist. Perhaps science would have lead the way, every advance mankind has made has been because of science.

Please provide a link to this incident where a presidential candidate said homosexuals should be put to death followed by a cheering crowd.

Science began in the 1400s. You're telling us that no advancement in mankind existed before the 1400s and that no advancements outside of science have existed since. Do you hear yourself?

I dont go at all anymore. I went for a long time and then decided it was stupid. I was usually hungover. The Catholic Church is a cult. Stand, kneel, stand, kneel. Listen to priest read from a bible for an 45 minutes with a 5 minute story mixed in. Get bread and/or wine at the end and supposed to feel good. Lol. I can benefit alot more by never stepping foot back in that place again. Football is more important anyway. Gotta prepare that special meal for Sundays. Its like a holy ritual.

congrats for recognizing it for what it was, and not staying for the breads and circuses...

Please, you don't think before the 1400's that people weren't exploring and trying new things. Was the discovery of fire a religious event? Or the making of the wheel? Science began in the 1400's, give me a break.

That proposition is way off the mark. Mao and Stalin slaughtered more people than all the religious wars in history combined. The Mongol Empire was secular and was notorious for its barbarity. The Roman Empire had gods but its wars were in the service of power and money. They were, like most wars, nothing more than armed robbery on a grand scale.
